The instructions and photos for How to Line a French Barrette were provided by Ann Whisler of Creative Works By Ann. Many thanks for helping to enlarge our collection of FREE instructions.

Materials

French Barrette of choice with center removed.
2 Alligator clips to hold ribbon
2 sections of ribbon cut for length of Barrette, with ends sealed (see suggested measurements bottom of page)
One center ribbon with ends sealed (not shown).
If you are using a knot center, tie the knot first.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Place a drop of glue on the underside of the end of the barrette and place the end of the ribbon on it, pressing firmly. Hold for a moment for the glue to set.
Place a drop of glue on top of the barrette end and fold the ribbon over it, holding it in place with an alligator clip.
Run a bead of glue along the top of the barrette. Quickly lay the ribbon across the top of the barrette, pressing to hold in place. Hot glue dries faster so placing the ribbon while using hot glue needs to be more exact than if using Fabrictac or other ready-liquid glue.
Place a drop of glue on the underside of the French barrette that has not yet been covered and hold in place with an alligator clip. It should look as shown. Allow glue to set.
Glue your bow to the French Barrette, centering the bow. Glue one end of the center ribbon to the underside of the French barrette as shown. Allow to set.
Wrap the center around the bow, bringing the loose end back toward the center. Glue the end directly on top of the previous end and hold to set glue.
Run a bead of glue down the underside of the french barrette being sure to also apply glue to the ribbon center ends (previously glued)
Lay the underlining ribbon on the glue and press down firmly to secure, being sure to press it onto the ribbon center ends.
This is what the underside of your french barrette will look like.
Now you can replace the center spring and wear your bow!
