His disease was discovered while he was self employed with no health insurance, so they are saving for the time they will need to have the surgery done.

Step-by-Step Instructions

To get started: Cut your ribbon
For a small 2 ½ to 3 inch bow – Cut 19 inches of 7/8 ribbon
For a medium 4 inch bow – Cut 29 inches of 1 ½ inch ribbon
For a large 5 inch bow – Cut 32 inches of 1 ½ inch ribbon
Be sure to heat seal your ends with a lighter or wood burning tool.

This example is for the small bow.

:::

Start by folding over the end of your ribbon 3 ½ inches.

For medium 4 inch bow, overlap your first fold to 5 inches.

For large 5 inch bow, make your first fold at 6 inches.

Next, you fold over the long end of the ribbon at the 4 inch mark.

For medium 4 inch bow, make the next fold at 6 inches and continue to wrap the ribbon into a 6 inch loop.

For large 5 inch bow, continue to fold in a 7 inch loop.

Then, continue wrapping the ribbon around in a loop until the end of the ribbon is on top.
Now stick a pin through the very center of the loops.
You are now going to separate the bow. Identify the 3 layers of ribbon on each side of the pin. The top, the middle, and the bottom. Pull the top and the bottom one way and the middle layer the other way. Do the same to the other side. So it should look like this.
Continue to spread the loops out until you have an X like this.
Next, you use a threaded needle to weave across the ribbon, starting on the top of the ribbon, making sure you stay in the center by the pin. You should see 2 sections where the needle goes under the ribbon and it should begin and end on the top side.
Remove the pin in the center and squeeze the center together creating 2 peaks.
Pull the needle through and wrap the thread around the center. Push the needle back through a small part of the ribbon and tie off. If you use wire, you can use a pin to weave through the ribbon and wrap your wire around the middle after you squeeze the center.
You don’t have to shape your bow yet, but you can to make sure it looks centered.
For a knotted center, first cross your 3/8 ribbon (this uses a 3 ½ - 4 inch piece).
Now, pull one end through the whole and start to pull it tight with the top side of your ribbon faced up on both ends. You may need to twist it around to get it right.
Pull it until it makes the pyramid, or tighter if you like the knotted look.
Hot glue it to the center of your bow.
Hot glue the clip of your choice on the back.
When you wrap the center knot around the back of the clip, push the ribbon towards the front of the bow. Then wrap the ends around and hot glue then to secure.
This is what helps it hold it’s shape.
After that, shape and fluff your bow and spray it with starch to help it stay nice.

These are great alone, or you can use several of them and created a layered bow.
